[page 1] An Act to amend sections seventy-five and one hundred and nine of the Education Act (Northern Ireland) 1947; to repeal the Prevention of Cruelty to Children Act 1904; and for related purposes. [31st March, 1953.] BE it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, and the Senate and the House of Commons of Northern Ireland in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- 1 Withdrawn pupils' names to remain in school registers In sub-section (3) of section seventy-five of the Education Act (Northern Ireland) 1947 (c. 3) (which relates to the registration of pupils at school) the words "and shall make provision for the deletion from the register of the name of any pupil so withdrawn" are hereby repealed. 2 Amendment as to school-leaving age (1) In sub-section (3) of section one hundred and nine of the said Act of 1947 (which enables the raising of the school-leaving age to be postponed) for the words "the first day of April, nineteen hundred and fifty-three" there shall be substituted the words "the first day of April, nineteen hundred and fifty-seven". (2) Section eleven of the Education (Amendment) Act (Northern Ireland) 1951 (c. 10), is hereby repealed. 3 Repeal of 4 Edw. 7. c. 15 The Prevention of Cruelty to Children Act 1904, which as now in force makes provision for certain re- [page 2] strictions on the employment of children and for certain ancillary matters, is hereby repealed. 4 Expenses Any increase attributable to the provisions of this Act in the expenses which under section one hundred and eight of the Education Act (Northern Ireland) 1947, or any other enactment, are to be defrayed out of moneys provided by Parliament shall be defrayed out of moneys so provided. 5 Short title, construction and citation (1) This Act may be cited as the Education (Amendment) Act (Northern Ireland) 1953. (2) This Act shall be construed as one with the Education Acts (Northern Ireland) 1947 to 1952, and those Acts and this Act may be cited together as the Education Acts (Northern Ireland) 1947 to 1953.
